We caught up with Natasha Bianca to talk about her debut EP, ‘SHE’, her journey in a male-dominated industry, empowering women through music, and what’s next!
‘SHE’ IS SUCH A POWERFUL TITLE FOR AN EP, ESPECIALLY GIVEN ITS THEMES OF EMPOWEREMENT AND SELF-DISCOVERY. CAN YOU SHARE WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THIS PROJECT AND WHY YOU CHOSE THAT TITLE?
Thank you! SHE initially started as just a single, but I quickly realised how much more it could become. I wanted to expand on the theme of female empowerment, drawing from situations I was experiencing at the time. I needed this song for myself and realised that others might need it too. It’s about breaking free from societal expectations and the “boys club” mentality, and owning who we are unapologetically. Through this EP, I hope to convey resilience and encourage women to embrace and redefine femininity on their own terms, celebrating the boldness of being a woman.
YOUR MUSIC COMBINES POP AND R&B WITH DEEPLY PERSONAL, EMOTIONALLY CHARGED LYRICS. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND, AND WHAT DRAWS YOU TO BLEND THESE TWO GENRES?
I love to be experimental, and this whole project allowed me to push my boundaries sonically, and trial with new textures and sounds. It was empowering for myself being able to grow artistically through this project and I’m thrilled to share the outcome with the world.
‘SHE’ EXPLORES THEMES LIKE FEMININITY, STRENGTH AND CHALLENGING SOCIETAL EXPECTATIONS. WAS THERE A PARTICULAR EXPERIENCE OR REALIZATION IN YOUR LIFE THAT LED YOU TO FOCUS ON THESE TOPICS IN YOUR DBEUT?
Navigating the music industry and seeing first-hand how male-dominated it is truly inspired me to focus on celebrating women through this project. This EP became my way to explore and uplift femininity, not only for myself but as a message of empowerment for anyone facing similar obstacles.
YOU’VE MENTIONED THAT ‘SHE’ IS NOT JUST MUSIC, BUT A MOVEMENT. HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR EP INSPIRING WOMEN AND CREATING A LASTING IMPACT BEYOND THE MUSIC?
I envision this project sparking conversations around empowerment, strength, and self-worth, helping women feel seen and valued in spaces where they’re often overlooked. Beyond the music, I hope to create a community that encourages women to support one another, step confidently into their power, and feel proud of who they are.
WITH AN ALL-FEMALE LINE-UP ON YOUR UPCOMING AUSTRALIAN TOUR, YOURE SPOTLIGHTING SISTERHOOD AND FEMALE TALENT IN MUSIC. WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM THESE SHOWS, AND HOW DOES THE TOUR ENHANCE THE MESSAGE OF ‘SHE’?
This tour brings the message of SHE to life with an all-female lineup, highlighting sisterhood and female talent. Fans can expect high-energy performances, an empowering atmosphere, and a true celebration of women in music.
BEING A YOUNG ARTIST IN A MALE-DOMINATED INDUSTRY, WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED. AND HOW DO YOU OVERCAME THEM WHILST STAYING TRUE TO YOUR VISION?
Unfortunately, as a female in a male-dominated industry, there are often pressures, and we can be seen as inexperienced. These are challenges I’ve faced personally, and I’ve had similar discussions with other women in the industry who feel overlooked, not taken seriously, or that their voices aren’t respected. I’m grateful, though, to have found an incredible team—including supportive men—who I trust and who have been instrumental in helping me navigate this journey.
YOUR LYRICS OFTEN RESONATE WITH THEMES OF RESILIENCE AND SELF WORTH. WHEN WRITING THESE SONGS, DID YOU FIND THE PROCESS CARTHARTIC, AND WHAT MESAGE DO YOU HOPE LISTENERS TAKE FRO YOUR WORDS?
Absolutely! During the writing process, I felt inspired and empowered, and on my tough days, I listen back as a reminder of my resilience. I hope listeners, especially women, feel empowered and remember their worth and value through these songs.
YOU’RE USING YOUR PLATFORM AS BOTH A MUSICAL AND SOCIAL INSTRUMENT. HOW DO YOU BALANCE BEING AN ENTERTAINER WITH BEING AN ADVOCATE, AND WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER ARTISTS WANTING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
I advocate for what I’m passionate about, so I don’t feel the need to balance the two. I use social media to show my authentic self, and the causes I care about naturally flow into my music. For other artists wanting to make a difference, I’d say stay true to your values and let your art reflect what you believe in—it doesn’t have to be separate. When you're authentic, the message will resonate.
AS YOU STEP INTO THIS NEW PHASE OF YOUR CAREER WITH ‘SHE’, WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE MOST EXCITING OR UNEXPECTED ASPECT OF BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND SHARING YOUR MUSIC WITH A WIDER AUDIENCE?
The most exciting part of stepping into this new phase with SHE is seeing how the music connects with people on a deeper level. I’ve received many messages from friends and fans thanking me for what I’m doing for women, and it’s incredibly humbling. It’s also thrilling to witness the growth and support from my audience, especially as a female artist in a male-dominated industry. Sharing this journey with them makes every step feel even more rewarding.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AFTER THIS TOUR AND THE RELEASE OF ‘SHE’? ARE THERE ANY NEW THEMES OR COLLABORATIONS YOU’RE EXPLORING FOR YOUR FUTURE MUSIC PROJECTS?
There will always be new music on the way! I can’t wait to experiment further in 2025 and continue pushing boundaries with my music.
